My portfolio
Below a small selection of projects I was involved in. I designed, built and managed dozens of websites over the years, so this is really only the top of a pretty large iceberg.
Please contact me for more (or more specific) examples.
Nederlands Talen Instituut
www.nti.nl
NTI is one of the leading learning centers in the Netherlands. They offer around 600 courses, from short course to bachelor degree, to 70.000 students every year. Since about 60 percent of their new customers sign up online, demands for their new website were high: highly SE optimised, easy to manage, up to date and a high(er) conversion rate.
This was my biggest and most challenging project to date, so I was pretty content when NTI asked me to help with redesigning the site I built five years before.
For this recent redesign I was outsourced by Mindbus to set up the functional design and guide the build to its deadline.
Online since August 2007, overhauled in 2012.

Polare
www.polare.nl|m.polare.nl
When large book chains De Slegte and selexyz came together Polare was born and on the sound structure of deslegte.com the new site was built. Not only was the the design completely overhauled, but some of the nice(r) features of the old selexyz site were rebuilt. For the redesign/rebuild I was the project manager/product owner and set up an extensive set of wireframes in order to rethink the key pages.
Since De Slegte was specialised in second hand books the online shop, like the other 30 or so offline ones, has a very 'longtail' feel to it. I am, mainly, involved with monitoring and bettering conversion rates and user experience (which, in part, go hand in hand), while the SEO on the site is also an important focal point.

Wegwijzer Archieven WO2
www.archievenwo2.nl
Wegwijzer Archieven WO2 is a joint effort by the National Archive (Nationaal
Archief) and the Dutch Institute for War Documentation (NIOD).
The site aims to be the ultimate source on where to find World War II related archives in the Netherlands. 225 Separate institutes participated in identifying and naming over 4.000 archives.
It was built on a Drupal framework.
Since the technical project leader was transferred to another project in an early phase I was hired (through Mindbus) to make sure the development of the project was running smoothly, was technically sound and that the NA and NIOD got the website they set out to produce.
Online since 2009.

Velthuis kliniek
www.velthuiskliniek.nl
With five clinics, Velthuis kliniek is the largest private plastic surgery clinic in the Netherlands. Many different treatments that overlap quite often call for a website that is structured an well set up. Although the graphical concept is focused on visual impact and different routes to get to the same information, the site's skeleton was set up with structure and indexabillity in mind.
The site is maintained through the open source CMS Umbraco and has several connections to sister sites.
Online since 2006, major revision in 2012.

Sneeuwhoogte.nl
www.sneeuwhoogte.nl
'Sneeuwhoogte' is dutch for 'snow height' and that's what this site is all about. For almost every ski resort in the world, sneeuwhoogte.nl has the relevant and up to date details.
From the start extra attention has been given to SEO and SEM. The site has a 'link to this site' functionality with up to date snow conditions and deliberate use of keywords in URLs, navigation and content.
This site's premier status is proven by around a 100.000 visitors a day during peak season, most of which find the site through organic search results. As it is one of my 'babies' I'm glad the site is still going strong.
Online since October 2005, redesigned several times since then.

Miss Etam
www.missetam.nl
Miss Etam is a large fashion chain in the Netherlands with around 200 shops and has been a Mediaweb client since 1998.
The site sports a custom built CMS and is visited by thousands of loyal Miss Etam clients every day. The bi-weekly newsletter has a very large following.
I was in charge of building the first (serious) site in 1998 and have handled about 5 redesigns and grown more experienced with every revision.
Online since December 1998, redesigned several times since then.

Royal Talens
www.talens.com
Royal Talens is one of the worldwide leaders in materials for both professional and amateur painters.
The site is multi-lingual, has a custom built content management system (with a direct link to the company's JD Edwards database) and loads of extra's for Talens customers (gallery, personal E-cards, forum).
Bringing all the demands and wishes of Royal Talens, their main distributors and their customers together in an appealing design turned out to be quite a challenge, but one that turned out quite well.
Online since December 2006, redesigned since then.

Brand Bier
www.brand.nl
Brand is one of five big beer brands endorsed by the Heineken company and was a client for six years. We built two of their main consumer websites and numerous campaign and spin-off websites.
Brand is no longer a client, but is mentioned in my portfolio, because the diversity of work I did for them.
Among the projects handled were highly successful text-messaging campaigns (with third party provider), packaging campaigns, online games and quizzes and shopping concepts. Over the years I handled just about every aspect in web development and marketing for just this one client.
Online since February 2001, redesigned multiple times since then.

Xpert clinic
www.xpertclinic.nl
Xpert Clinic offers high quality care for hand and wrist, with the speed and service of a private clinic. The site needs to represent that professionality, emphasising quality and completeness of information.
The site is maintained through the open source CMS Umbraco, which gives Xpert Clinic complete control over every bit of content, even the more complicated parts.
Online since 2012.

Athenaeum Boekhandel
www.athenaeum.nl
Athenaeum Boekhandel sells books. In a rather nice, but difficult niche; that of the literary connaisseur. The website is very content heavy, which appeals to thousands of visitors every day, but doesn't sell a lot of books. So we set out to change that. The site doesn't look very sexy (and doesn't have to), but a thorough overhaul of call-to-actions, flow and ordering process more than doubled the revenue.

Amatec Technische Veren
www.amatec.nl
Amatec sells all sorts of technical springs and gas struts to, mainly, business customers. With their new site, they wanted to make a significant step forward and step into the consumer market as well.
A clear and fast filtering system was devised to get the online shoppers the spring(s) they want. The site is maintained through the open source CMS Umbraco.

Engeltherm Airconditioning & Warmtepompen
www.engeltherm.nl
Engeltherm sells and installs airconditioning equipment and heat pumps. They were looking for a one-stop-shop that gave them all the attention they wanted. As a freelance assignment I built the entire website. Building smaller sites yourself keeps you up to date and in check with what's out there.
The site is maintained through the open source CMS 'CMS Made Simple', which made the addition of an extranet with suprising capabillities fairly, right, simple.

Carbon Art
www.carbonartwindsurf.com
Carbon Art is a Taranaki windsurf- and surfboard builder. They specialise in state of the art construction and design, running the standardised production factory in Oakura.
For their new site they wanted a robust CMS, a revised shopping model (flow and payment) and a framework to be able to build on for years to come. Efinity's in-house CMS (CMSPro) was used to rebuild, restructure and redesign the site.
The Carbon Art Surf subsidiary was the first to launch, while the more enhanced Carbon Art Windsurf followed a few months later.
Online since October 2008, slightly redesigned since then.

Taranaki Harcourts
www.taranakiharcourts.co.nz
Harcourts is one of the biggest real estate companies in New Zealand with a very strong presence in Taranaki.
For Taranaki Harcourts we rebuild the site using XHMTL strict, making the site faster, future proof and search engine friendlier.
Much of the data on Taranaki Harcourts is fetched from the main Harcourts website and reused for several on- and offline processes, among others a custom brochure builder.
The site performs quite well, attracting many new and return visitors.
Online since November 2008, replaced by a Harcourts NZ-wide site since then.

Rafting New Zealand
www.raftingnewzealand.com
Rafting New Zealand is an old company with young Kiwi owners, determined to provide the best white water rafting in New Zealand.
Their second generation site needed to be fast, good looking and highly search engine friendly. All of which we managed to fit in. Visits and enquiries are on the rise and the site performs very well on important keywords.
Online since May 2008, slightly redesigned since then.

Destination Waitomo
www.waitomo.org.nz
Destination Waitomo is the offical tourism organisation for The King Country in New Zealand.
Although the glowworm caves are the main attraction, the King Country has a lot more to offer. A point the site should make to as many visitors as possible.
The site uses an older CMS, but uses modern techniques on the front end, making it fast and search engine friendly.
Online since July 2008, redesigned since then.

Delta Lloyd Regatta
www.deltalloydregatta.org
The Delta Lloyd Regatta is one of the world's biggest sailing regatta's in all olympic classes
In 1998, when I first started work at Mediaweb, the Spa Regatta (as it was then called) was in it's second yearly revision. Since then it was my yearly job to make sure the event was 'cybercast' in the best possible way. Uploading results, pictures and videos and making sure competition news reached the worldwide audience.
In 2007 it was the twelfth edition of the Delta Lloyd Regatta that was supported by technically, but not visually, the same website. Since it had evolved over the years, this year was the first where the entire event could be 'cybercasted' from the office.
Online since December 1996, redesigned yearly.

Grapedistrict
www.grapedistrict.nl
Instead of using grapes, countries or years, they devised a system of choosing wines through moods.
For support of their bricks and mortar stores a user friendly and appealing web shop was developed. Payment is handled by a third party payment provider.
The company is a success and their website is following suit. Sales are rising and Grapedistrict are investing in new additions at the moment.
Online since April 2006 and has been redesigned since.

Funda.tv
Offline
Funda is the leading private real estate website in the netherlands with over 220.000 private homes in their database.
Because Funda were uncertain about what to do with streaming video possibilities they asked us to develop a website that could be used as a 'streaming video playground'.
The site hosted hundreds of videos of up-market real estate, as well as specially produced made-for-TV content, brought together in a very intuitive Flash interface (or HTML/Windows Media by choice).
After a successful trial period that was supported by major main site coverage, Funda decided to incorporate the video functionality into the main site.

Mona - Pimp my pudding
Offline
Mona (owned by Unilever) specialises in dairy products, with pudding being an important one.
For a temporary campaign we designed a website where visitors could design and send in their own pudding. The eventual winner was awarded with his personal creation going into production as 'pudding of the month'.
The campaign (and website) was very successful with about 30.000 puddings being created and uploaded. The 'Toetjesmaker' is now a main feature on the Mona website.
Graphic design was done in-house, while most of the Flash development was outsourced.
